Chiikawa Excitement in McDonald’s Japan: New Happy Set Collection Starts Tomorrow

Chiikawa, one of the biggest cultural phenomena in Japan in recent years, is returning to McDonald’s restaurants! Starting May 15, 2026, a new Happy Set campaign featuring characters from this popular series created by illustrator Nagano will begin at all McDonald’s branches across Japan. As part of this limited-time collaboration, the series' iconic characters will appear dressed as McDonald’s staff. In particular, the design of the main character Chiikawa in the role of a restaurant manager has already created great excitement among fans.
This new collection consists of eight different 3D pencil topper figures, targeting not only children but also loyal followers of the series of all ages. The campaign will be carried out in two waves: the first wave between May 15-28 will include Chiikawa (Manager), Hachiware (Delivery Staff), Rakko, and Kurimanju. In the second wave starting on May 29, Usagi, Momonga, Shisa, and Furuhonya will be added to the collection. McDonald’s Japan states that these toys aim to teach children about different roles in a restaurant and the importance of teamwork.
Due to the overcrowding and stocks selling out within minutes during past Chiikawa collaborations, very strict measures have been taken this time. Japan's largest second-hand sales platforms, Mercari, Rakuma, and Yahoo Auctions, have announced that they have banned the sale of these toys until June 14 to prevent scalpers. Additionally, to prevent chaos in restaurants, customers are advised to follow McDonald’s official guidelines during the first few days.
