We have exciting news for anime lovers! Streaming giant Crunchyroll has shared major license announcements that will shape its release schedule for the next few years. The most notable name on the list is Smoking Behind the Supermarket With You (Super no Ura de Yani Suu Futari), which has a massive global fanbase and is confirmed to meet audiences in 2026. Additionally, the platform pointed to 2027 for the second season of the beloved isekai series The World's Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat.
Smoking Behind the Supermarket With You is a series created by mangaka Jinushi that first began as a web-manga on Twitter. The production, which won first place in the web category at Japan's prestigious Next Manga Award (Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Taishou) in 2022, focuses on the intimate and melancholic relationship between Sasaki, a tired office worker, and Yamada (or Tayama, the name she uses while smoking), a mysterious woman. This seinen story has already become one of the most anticipated productions of 2026 for adult viewers looking for an escape from the stress of daily life.
On the other hand, another piece of news that will delight fantasy and action enthusiasts came from The World's Finest Assassin front. The series, written by Rui Tsukiyo, who is also the author of the Redo of Healer series, made a big splash with its first season in 2021. Fans will have to wait until 2027 for the second season of the production, which tells the story of the world's greatest assassin being reincarnated in a fantasy world. This long waiting period signals that the studio will be working meticulously to maintain production quality.
Crunchyroll also gave good news for sooner dates. It was confirmed that Hanaori-san Still Wants to Fight in the Next Life and the sci-fi themed isekai Reborn as a Space Mercenary: I Bought a Luxury Starship will be released on the platform this year. Additionally, the English voice cast for the second season of the currently ongoing popular production Wistoria: Wand and Sword (Wistoria: Tsue to Tsurugi) has been made official. These moves by Crunchyroll show that the platform is following a broad content strategy that covers not only current seasons but also the next three-year period.
