Countdown for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 Begins: Release Date and New Lead Taliya Yang Announced!
Residents of Night City, check your implants because the legend is returning! Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which took the anime world by storm in 2022 and sent interest in the Cyberpunk 2077 game to new heights, is preparing to return to fans with an official follow-up season. According to the official announcement, the new installment of the series will meet audiences worldwide via Netflix in the Fall of 2026. Along with this announcement, Taliya Yang, one of the key characters who will be at the center of the new story, was introduced for the first time.
A brand new crew awaits us in the new season. Among the introduced characters, the most striking is Taliya Yang, who, despite coming from the corpo towers, has a heart that beats for "chrome" and violence. Taliya, a character hardened by the harsh conditions of the Maelstrom gang, has been announced as the fourth main character of the series. She will be joined by Weak Kingsley, an old legend; D, a netrunner seeking revenge; and Roman Carax, a young filmmaker trying to document the true stories of the city. This 10-episode standalone story will allow us to explore a different and darker side of Night City after the tragic tale of David Martinez and Lucy from the first season.
There is a changing of the guard on the production side. The first season's director, Hiroyuki Imaishi, has handed over the chair to Kai Ikarashi, known for his success on the sixth episode of the series. While the collaboration between Studio Trigger and CD Projekt Red continues at full speed, the character designs are once again in the hands of Ichigo Kanno. On the music side, Tsuneo Imahori's original compositions will be accompanied by the track "You Can't Run From Me," performed by the famous artist Rico Nasty. This lineup is the greatest proof that the series will maintain its unique chaotic and emotional atmosphere.
The first season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners achieved great success by being named "Anime of the Year" at the 2023 Crunchyroll Anime Awards. Following this success, the universe continued to expand with the prequel manga titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, released at the end of 2024. The release of the new season in 2026 appears to be in strategic alignment with the new Cyberpunk game (Project Orion) that CD Projekt Red is working on.
