Meitantei Precure! The Movie Is Coming: Release Date and First Details Shared
The detective-themed entry of the legendary magical girl franchise Precure, Meitantei Precure!, is stepping onto the big screen. According to the official announcement, the film, titled Movie Detective Precure! (Eiga Meitantei Precure!), will meet audiences in theaters across Japan on September 18, 2026. The first visual and teaser video shared with the announcement highlight a mysterious "suncatcher" object that will be at the center of the story.
In the released trailer, the series' protagonist Anna Akechi (Cure Answer) and her partner Mikuru Kobayashi (Cure Mystique) are seen taking action to solve an exciting mystery. While the suncatcher at the center of the visual illuminates scenes by refracting light through its colorful stones, hints are given that characters like Cure Arcana Shadow and Cure Eclair, who have not yet been fully introduced in the TV series, will also play important roles in the film. Additionally, the series' beloved mascots Pochitan, Jett-senpai, Mashutan, and Shushutan will accompany our detectives on this cinematic adventure.
Produced by Toei Animation, Meitantei Precure! is the 23rd installment in the massive Pretty Cure series that began in 2004. The series follows 14-year-old Anna, who travels through time from 2027 to 1999, as she meets Mikuru, who dreams of becoming a detective, and their struggle against the "Guild of Phantom Thieves." Directed by Koji Kawasaki, the production brings a fresh breath to the genre by blending the series' traditional action-packed scenes with mystery and detective elements.
For Precure fans, watching a movie in the autumn months has become a tradition.
