Digimon Announces New TV Anime and 'The Best Adventure We Chose' Series for 2027
Digimon universe greets its 30th anniversary with a big piece of news. The franchise has confirmed that a brand-new TV anime is officially in production, set to air in 2027. Immediately after, with a promotional trailer released ahead of the 30th anniversary, a special anniversary series titled “The Best Adventure We Chose” was announced. For now, neither cast, story, nor release details for either project have been shared.
This news is quite meaningful for fans familiar with Digimon's origins. The franchise was first born in 1997 with Bandai's virtual pet device called Digital Monster. In 1999, the Digimon Adventure anime by Toei Animation hit the screens. This series, which tells the adventures of the “Chosen Children” in the digital world, quickly became a global phenomenon. Since then, the series has grown with many seasons, films, and spin-off projects, and will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2027.
The special series titled “The Best Adventure We Chose” has not yet been confirmed as a TV series, but it is positioned as a nostalgic bridge project. The emphasis on “choice” in the promotional trailer references the Chosen Children, one of the series' core concepts. This strengthens the interpretation that the project could revisit the adventures of the original Digimon Adventure generation from a new perspective. Announcing such a project ahead of the 30th anniversary is seen as part of Digimon's strategy to appeal to both old and new fans.
As for the new TV anime set to air in 2027, it is unknown whether it will be a continuation of the series or a reboot.
