The Disgaea Series Returns with Action: Disgaea Mayhem Western Release Date Announced!

Disgaea, one of the craziest and most colorful series in the strategy RPG world, is returning with a new adventure that breaks the mold. Developer Nippon Ichi Software has officially announced the Western release date for the series' action-oriented spin-off, Disgaea Mayhem (known as Kyōran Makaism in Japan). According to the newly released trailer, the game will launch on July 23rd for PlayStation 5, PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, and the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 platforms.
Disgaea Mayhem sets aside the traditional turn-based strategy structure that the series has maintained for over 20 years, throwing players directly into the heart of the action. Designed as a hack-and-slash RPG, the game follows the story of N.A., a mercenary known for his sweet tooth, and Princess Tichelle, whose only concern is pudding. Players will be able to switch between seven different weapon classes—including swords, bows, fists, and axes—at will, and will see the series' signature "million-damage points" in real-time combat for the first time.
Familiar mechanics for fans of the series have not been forgotten. The Item World system, a staple of the Disgaea universe, returns for you to strengthen your equipment. Furthermore, you will be able to level up your characters to 9999 and change the game's rules in your favor through the Dark Chocolate Assembly. With this spin-off, Nippon Ichi Software aims to remain faithful to the series' deep history while offering a fresh experience that appeals to action lovers.
Starting in 2003 with Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, this legendary series has managed to sell over 5 million copies worldwide to date. Disgaea Mayhem is seen as one of the boldest projects to deviate from the series' main line. The fact that it will launch with Nintendo Switch 2 support, in particular, raises great curiosity regarding the game's technical capacity and next-gen console performance. The Limited Edition, prepared for collectors and priced at $99.99, will hit shelves in July with content such as an art book, soundtrack, and special acrylic stands.
