Doraemon Anime Reaches Wider Audiences Through Cake and TV Asahi Partnership for English Release

The long-running anime classic Doraemon has signed a major distribution deal to meet English-speaking audiences. Through the partnership between TV Asahi and digital streaming platform Cake, the series will be broadcast with English subtitles or dubbing in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) region. This move is an important step in bringing one of the world's most recognizable anime characters to new audiences.
Created by Fujiko F. Fujio, Doraemon was first published as a manga in 1969 and made its anime debut in 1973. Translated into over 40 languages and aired in more than 100 countries, the series also has a large fan base in Turkey. However, its English distribution remained limited for many years. While certain episodes were previously broadcast via Disney XD and some digital platforms, this new deal aims to give the series wider and more consistent access.
On the other side of the partnership, Cake is an independent distribution and streaming company focused on children's and family content. The company has previously brought popular productions such as Angry Birds Toons and Kid-E-Cats to a global audience. TV Asahi, as one of Japan's largest private broadcasters, owns not only Doraemon but also major series like Crayon Shin-chan and Pretty Cure. This collaboration between the two companies reflects both the trend toward globalization in the anime industry and the revival of classic works through modern streaming platforms.
For fans, this news means an opportunity to introduce childhood heroes to new generations. The recent explosion of interest in anime, especially in English-speaking countries, allows cult series like Doraemon to ride this wave. In the coming period, clearer information is expected regarding which platforms (e.g., Amazon Prime, Netflix, or Cake's own channels) and which episodes will be aired. If this deal proves successful, other classic anime series may also enter the Western market through similar means.
