Dr. Stone Anime's Director and Writers Discuss the Adaptation Process
The behind-the-scenes of the Dr. Stone anime adaptation has come to light through the eyes of the production team. Speaking to Anime News Network, director Shuhei Matsushita, head scriptwriter Kurasumi Sunayama, and screenwriter Aki Kindaichi shared details that excited both manga fans and anime viewers.
In the interview, the challenges of converting scientific content into animation stood out. The manga is a science-heavy series written by Riichiro Inagaki and illustrated by Boichi. According to the team, visualizing petrification and the subsequent scientific discoveries required great effort from both the research and animation teams. Sunayama said, "We had to stay faithful to the original manga to convey every scientific step accurately and understandably."

The series' creators, Inagaki and Boichi, serialized the manga in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2017 to 2022.
