"Fired? But I Maintain All the Software!" Light Novel Gets Anime Adaptation

"Fired? But I Maintain All the Software!" (Japanese: Kubi ni Natta kedo, Software wa Zenbu Ore ga Kanri Shiteiru) light novel series has been officially announced for an anime adaptation. According to Anime Corner, the project is currently in development and details such as studio, release date, or cast have not been shared yet. However, this announcement stands out as a reflection of the growing interest in light novel adaptations set in workplaces with fantasy and thriller elements in recent years.
The series is written by Japanese author Kazuki Sakuraba and illustrated by Miyabi. Initially published on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō platform in 2022, the work quickly gained a large readership. The story follows an IT specialist who is unfairly fired by his company, secretly gains access to all software systems, and seeks justice against his former employer. Using his authority as a system administrator, the protagonist uncovers the company's secrets and finds himself in an unexpected technological war.
The light novel began print publication under the Kadokawa label in 2023, and three volumes have been released so far. The series stands out for its themes of workplace injustice, technology addiction, and individual power. Unlike recent hero stories independent of the workplace such as "The Rising of the Shield Hero" and "Mushoku Tensei", this series is distinct because it is set directly in a modern office environment. Fans are eagerly awaiting how this unique concept will be adapted into an anime.
Which studio will handle the anime adaptation has not been announced yet, but industry sources suggest that the project has been taken on by a mid-sized studio and is planned for release within 2025. The official announcement also stated that a new manga adaptation is in preparation. Such announcements are usually made at major events in Japan (such as Anime Expo, Comiket, Kadokawa Light Novel Festival), but this time we encountered a sudden press release.
More information on the matter will be shared in the coming weeks via the official Twitter account and Kadokawa's website. If a new trailer or visuals are released, we will inform you immediately. If you are also curious about our fired hero's revenge journey in the software world, keep your eyes on the screen!
