From Far Away Anime Announces Cast and Release Date with Teaser Video
The From Far Away (Kanata kara) manga, which has been awaiting an anime adaptation for many years, has finally been made official. The teaser video released on July 14, 2026, revealed the main cast, production team, and premiere date. Accordingly, the series is being produced by Studio Deen and will meet audiences on television in Japan on October 4, 2026.
The most notable detail in the teaser is the main voice cast. Tomoyo Kurosawa will voice the lead character Noriko, while Kentarō Kumagai, Yūichirō Umehara, and Eiji Takeuchi will bring other important characters to life. Given Kurosawa's performances in works such as Kimi no Na wa. and Girls' Last Tour, this casting choice has fans quite excited.
So, why is From Far Away so special? Kyoko Hikawa's manga, which was published in Hana to Yume magazine between 1991 and 2002, begins with high school student Noriko being mysteriously transported to another world. In this fantasy adventure, Noriko discovers she possesses a power called "Consciousness" and finds herself in the middle of a kingdom's civil war. The series became a cult classic not only among Japanese readers but also abroad. However, no anime adaptation had been made until now. Therefore, the announcement marks the end of a years-long wait, especially for fans who have been following the series since the early 2000s.
It has not yet been announced who will sit in the director's chair, but it is worth remembering that Studio Deen has produced beloved works such as Hetalia, Fate/stay night, and Junjō Romantica in the past. The studio has an experienced team at its disposal. A new trailer and additional cast announcements are expected in the coming weeks. This first TV anime adaptation of From Far Away, which will begin on October 4, seems set to unite both nostalgic manga lovers and the new generation of anime viewers under the same excitement.
