New Cast News for From Overshadowed to Overpowered Anime: Coming in July 2026!

At the AnimeJapan 2026 event, exciting new details were shared for the highly anticipated fantasy anime From Overshadowed to Overpowered: Second Reincarnation of a Talentless Sage (Rakudai Kenja no Gakuin Musō). According to the official announcement made at the NBCUniversal booth, four new names have joined the series' voice cast. Hiroki Tōchi will voice the older and wiser version of the character, while Ayaka Fukuhara will bring the main character's childhood to life. Additionally, Emiri Katō (Iria) and Daisuke Hirakawa (Fraser) are other professionals who have joined the production's expanding cast.
Scheduled to meet audiences in July 2026, the series is based on a popular light novel series written by Arata Shiraishi and illustrated by Denim Uo. The story begins with the tragic death of Ephtal, who reincarnated from the modern world and was ostracized in his new world for having no magical talent. However, when Ephtal is reborn 400 years later with the same name, he realizes that magical civilization has suffered a major decline. The magical knowledge that was considered "inadequate" in the past turns him into an S-Rank mage with unrivaled and god-like power in this new era.
The technical staff of the production also consists of names that will please fans of the genre. The anime, prepared by the EMT Squared studio, is directed by Hisashi Ishii, whom we know from the Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear series. Deko Akao (WITCH WATCH) is in charge of the screenplay, while character designs are handled by Hideki Furukawa. Shūichirō Umeda, who voices the series' main character Ephtal, said the following about the character: "I am looking forward to seeing the mindset and passion behind how Ephtal can become a great sage despite having no magical talent."
The original manga of the series has been published on Square Enix's Manga UP! platform since 2019 and has achieved great success, reaching over 1.8 million copies sold worldwide. The inclusion of names such as Reo Osanai (Anastasia) and Haruka Shiraishi (Marin) in the previously announced main cast increases expectations regarding the quality of the project. Blending both action-packed magical battles and academy life, From Overshadowed to Overpowered appears to be a candidate for one of the most ambitious productions of the 2026 summer season.
