FromSoftware's 'Sekiro: No Defeat' Anime Film Premieres in Japanese Cinemas!

The highly anticipated anime adaptation of FromSoftware's critically acclaimed game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, titled Sekiro: No Defeat, is set to premiere in Japanese cinemas! The anime film will meet audiences in Japanese theaters for a limited three-week period starting from September 4, 2026. Along with this exciting news, the main visual for the project has also been unveiled to fans.
Sekiro: No Defeat brings the story of the groundbreaking action-adventure game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, released in 2019, into an anime format. Developed by FromSoftware and known for its challenging gameplay, unique sword fighting mechanics, and immersive atmosphere set in Sengoku-era Japan, the game won the Game of the Year award in 2019 and had sold over ten million copies as of September 2023. The anime will remain faithful to the game's central narrative, focusing on the loyal shinobi Wolf's mission to protect the Divine Heir Kuro and restore balance to a fractured Japan.
The anime is produced by Qzil.la, Kadokawa, and ARCH studios. Kenichi Kutsuna is in the director's chair, Takuya Satou is writing the screenplay, and character designs are by Takahiro Kishida, known for his work on the Haikyuu! series. Music is composed by Shuta Hasunuma. Most importantly, the direct involvement of the game's developer, FromSoftware, in the production process guarantees the adaptation's fidelity to the original material. Furthermore, the production team explicitly stated that despite Qzil.la's association with AI technologies, the animation is entirely hand-drawn 2D and no generative AI was used.
