Gakken's Educational 'Yuruyuru Zukan' Series Becomes Anime

Japan's long-established educational publisher Gakken's beloved children's encyclopedia series 'Yuruyuru Zukan' (ゆるゆる図鑑) is being adapted into a television anime. According to the official announcement, the series will air from October 2024 every Sunday morning at 7:00 AM on TV Tokyo and its five affiliated stations, as part of the 'Animori!' program block.
The series is based on the 'Yuruyuru Zukan' books, originally published by Gakken starting in 2015. Each book introduces different groups of creatures, such as animals, insects, marine life, and dinosaurs, through four-panel comic strips (4-koma manga). Aiming to spark children's interest in natural sciences through fun dialogues and cute illustrations, the series has reached over 20 volumes in Japan. The books have also been published in countries such as Korea, Taiwan, and China, gaining an international readership.
Although details of the anime adaptation are still limited, the production is expected to maintain the educational and fun format of the books. The 'Animori!' program block is known for educational content for children, which perfectly matches the target audience of 'Yuruyuru Zukan'. In each episode, the characteristics, habitat, and interesting behaviors of a different species will be explained in a humorous tone. The voice cast and production company have not been announced yet, but it is known that Gakken has previously adapted similar educational content like 'Gakken no Zukan' into anime.
This news is especially exciting for families with children and fans of educational animation. The adaptation of an encyclopedia series like 'Yuruyuru Zukan' into anime shows the growing popularity of productions that combine entertainment and learning. Previously, science-themed anime like 'Dr. Stone' received great attention; 'Yuruyuru Zukan' could fill a gap in this area by appealing to younger age groups. New trailers, character designs, and broadcast schedule details are expected to be released before October. Fans should not miss updates from Gakken's official channels and TV Tokyo's 'Animori!' page.
