New Visual Shared for GATE 2: Tides of Conflict Anime Series: Setting Sail in 2027

One of the most beloved military-fantasy series in the anime world, GATE, is preparing for a magnificent return after a full ten-year hiatus. The second main visual for the highly anticipated new season, GATE 2: Tides of Conflict (known in Japanese as GATE Season 2: Jieitai Kano Umi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri), was shared via official channels on May 14, 2026. According to the announcement, the new season will meet audiences in 2027. This new visual gives fans a first-hand feel for the atmosphere as the series shifts from land to sea this time around.
This new season takes place a few years after the adventures of Yoji Itami and his team from the first series, which aired between 2015 and 2016. This time, the story shifts its focus from the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force to the seas, specifically the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF). The leads are Petty Officer Hajime Tokushima, a former cook, and Captain Goro Edajima. Their mission is to rescue a kidnapped American journalist in the dangerous waters of the "Special Region." On this journey, they will be accompanied by new and colorful characters such as Princess Primera Luna Avion, a descendant of pirates, and the ship guardian Odette Ze Nebula.
The production team behind the series also consists of highly ambitious names. The first season's screenwriter Tatsuhiko Urahata returns to the project, while Toru Takahashi sits in the director's chair. The animation production is being handled by Studio M2, which has recently produced masterpieces like Pluto. Producer Hattori emphasized how planned the production process is, stating that as of December 2025, the scripts for all episodes have been completed. From the pen of Takumi Yanai
