New Visual Released for GATE Season 2: Thus the JSDF Fought There, in His Sea: Setting Sail for the Seas!

The beloved series GATE, which brings together military technology and a fantasy world, is preparing for a massive comeback after a long silence. A second main visual has been released for the highly anticipated new installment of the series, GATE SEASON 2: Thus the JSDF Fought There, in His Sea (Jieitai Kare no Umi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri). In the new visual, we see characters who will be at the center of the story, such as Hajime Tokushima and Primera, gathered in front of the majestic ship Odette. This visual is the clearest sign that the series will focus on large-scale struggles at sea rather than on land this time.
This new season is based on the "Weigh Anchor" novels written by Takumi Yanai, which serve as a sequel to the original series. In the first season, we followed the land operations of Youji Itami and his team in the "Special Region"; however, this time the focus will be on the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF). The story takes place four years after the events of the original series and centers on an international crisis that begins with the kidnapping of an American journalist. The conflict between the modern submarine Kitashio and the sea monsters and pirates of the fantasy world promises to bring a fresh breath to the series.
There are exciting details on the production side as well. Instead of A-1 Pictures, which was behind the first season, the animation seat is now occupied by Studio M2, known for successful works like Pluto. Directed by Toru Takahashi, the production features Tatsuhiko Urahata, whom we know from the first season, at the head of the screenwriting team.
