Ghost in the Shell: Classic Anime Series to Stream on Prime Video on July 7
Adapted from Masamune Shirow's legendary manga series, the TV anime series Ghost in the Shell will meet viewers on Prime Video starting July 7. The series will be released simultaneously in over 240 countries and regions. Prime Video also released a special promotional trailer for this release.
This production is not Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, which was produced by Production I.G between 2002 and 2003, but rather the TV series that preceded it and remained faithful to the original manga: "Ghost in the Shell: The Ghost in the Shell". This series is known as the first to bring Shirow's complex cyberpunk universe to television audiences, and it has achieved cult status, especially for its deep philosophical themes, impressive action, and character depth.
Previously released piecemeal on various platforms, this classic work can now be viewed in its entirety and in high quality thanks to Prime Video's global network. This offers a great opportunity especially for newcomers to the Ghost in the Shell universe and for old fans. The series is directed by Kenji Kamiyama and features music by Yoko Kanno – both names hold a respected place in the anime world.
Prime Video's move is seen as part of the platform's strategy to expand its anime catalog. Amazon, which has similarly added many classic and current anime to its library in recent months, will now offer one of the most important pillars of the cyberpunk genre to its subscribers with this release. More details about the series (voice cast, subtitle options, additional content) are expected to be announced from the end of June.
This release provides a proper starting point for Ghost in the Shell fans before moving on to the series' other works (films, Stand Alone Complex, SAC_2045, etc.). Starting July 7, Prime Video subscribers can embark on this unforgettable cyberpunk journey again or for the first time.
