The Ghost in the Shell Legend Returns: Release Date and Details for the New Anime Series Announced!

Ghost in the Shell, one of the most iconic works of the cyberpunk genre, is preparing to greet its fans with a brand-new television adaptation. According to the official announcement, the new series titled The Ghost in the Shell will begin airing in Japan on July 7, 2026. With the release of the third promotional video, it has been confirmed that the series will focus on the legendary Puppet Master story from the original manga and will captivate fans of the genre with its visuals. The series will be broadcast in Japan on Fuji TV's "Ka Anival!!" programming block.
The studio behind the new production is Science SARU, which has achieved great success in recent years with works such as Devilman Crybaby and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. The series is directed by Moko-chan (Toma Kimura), known for his work on the Dan Da Dan project. The screenplay is written by award-winning science fiction author EnJoe Toh. Shuhei Handa, who is in charge of character design and animation direction, aims to present a modern and stylized visual language while remaining faithful to Masamune Shirow's original 1989 manga. The music is being prepared by a star-studded team consisting of Taisei Iwasaki, Ryo Konishi, and Yuki Kanesaka.
