New Details on the Ganbare! Nakamura-kun!! Anime: Voice Cast Takes the Stage at AnimeJapan 2026!
The highly anticipated Ganbare! Nakamura-kun!! (Go For It, Nakamura!!) TV anime met its fans during a special panel held as part of AnimeJapan 2026. At the event, which took place on March 29, 2026, the series' lead voice actors Chiaki Kobayashi (Okuto Nakamura), Yuki Sakakibara (Aiki Hirose), Takuya Eguchi (Sou Otogiri), and Fairouz Ai (Hiromi Kawamura) took the stage to share candid insights about their characters and the production process. It was also officially confirmed at the panel that the series will premiere on April 2, 2026.
The original manga, written by Syundei, first began serialization in Opera magazine in 2014. Blending the retro art style of the 80s and 90s with modern humor, the series follows the story of Okuto Nakamura, a shy high school student, and his unrequited crush on his classmate Aiki Hirose, along with his attempts to confess his feelings. The manga has garnered a massive global fanbase and even received a sequel series in 2017 titled Motto Ganbare! Nakamura-kun!!.
Behind the anime adaptation is Studio Drive, previously known for KonoSuba Season 3. The series is directed by Aoi Umeki, known for Pop Team Epic, who is also handling the screenplay and character designs. This triple responsibility demonstrates the director's mastery over the series' visual language. Consisting of a total of 5 episodes, this short but intense series will strip away unnecessary filler scenes to focus directly on the warm and comedic atmosphere of the original manga.
Originally planned for 2025 but delayed to 2026 due to production processes, the anime has been awaited with great impatience by fans. The presentation at AnimeJapan proved that the wait would be worth it; in particular, how Chiaki Kobayashi will portray Nakamura's inner thoughts has been a subject of great curiosity. While international viewers will be able to follow the series on Crunchyroll, it was also announced that the first two episodes will be available on the Hulu platform on the same day.
