Countdown to the Golden Kamuy Finale: "Runaway Train Arc" Hits Screens This Winter

The years-long gold hunting adventure is finally coming to an end! The final arc of the Golden Kamuy anime series, adapted from Satoru Noda's award-winning manga, titled "Runaway Train Arc" (Bousou Ressha-hen), will meet viewers this winter season. Alongside the announcement made through the series' official channels, a new teaser visual representing the most exciting and chaotic moments of the story has been unveiled to fans. Following the first part of the final season that began on January 5, 2026, these new episodes will bring the journey of Saichi Sugimoto and Asirpa to an epic conclusion.
This final arc covers the famous climactic battle that manga fans have been anticipating most, where all factions face off on a train. The former soldier nicknamed "Immortal Sugimoto" and the young Ainu girl Asirpa are nearing the end of their struggle to find the hidden Ainu gold in the freezing cold of Hokkaido. The grand showdown with the 7th Division led by Lieutenant Tsurumi Tokushirou and Hijikata Toshizou's group will culminate in breathtaking action on the tracks. The episodes starting this winter will serve as the final act of the anime journey that has been ongoing since 2018.
Since it began in Weekly Young Jump magazine in 2014, Golden Kamuy has received great acclaim for both its historical details and its respectful approach to Ainu culture. The manga, which concluded with its 31st volume in 2022, won numerous prestigious awards, including the Manga Taisho, and has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. On the anime side, while the first three seasons were produced by Geno Studio, Brain's Base took over the reins starting from the fourth season. For the final season, Shizutaka Sugahara sits in the director's chair, with the screenplay entrusted to Noboru Takagi and the music to Kenichiro Suehiro.
For fans, this finale is not just the end of a treasure hunt, but also the completion of the characters' personal growth and the deep bonds they have formed. The "Runaway Train Arc," which will begin in the winter season (likely late 2026 or early 2027), promises to be one of the highest production quality arcs in the series to date. If you are also following Sugimoto's struggle for survival and Asirpa's effort to protect her cultural heritage, don't forget to take your place in front of the screen this winter. The adventure will end where it began, in the snowy lands of Hokkaido, aboard a rapidly moving train.
