The Most Beloved Robots of the Gundam Universe Selected: ν Gundam Takes the Top Spot in the First Global Poll!

The moment Gundam fans have been waiting for has arrived! Bandai Namco has officially announced the results of the Worldwide Gundam General Election 2025, held to celebrate the launch of the series' new official website. This massive poll, conducted in 10 different languages with over 1.33 million valid votes cast globally, revealed for the first time exactly which Mobile Suit designs are the most beloved on a global scale. At the top of the list was the ν (Nu) Gundam, known for its iconic 'funnel' weapons and remembered from the film Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack.
Looking at the overall results of the poll, it is clear that fans are particularly interested in designs with wings, transformation capabilities, or advanced remote-controlled weapons (funnels). Globally, the Wing Gundam Zero (Endless Waltz), etched in memory for its angel wings, took second place, while the Zeta Gundam, which revolutionized the series with its transformation ability, settled into third. As an interesting detail, while Wing Gundam Zero took first place in English-speaking regions, Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex topped the list in Italy, and Gundam Aerial, one of the newest members of the series, took the top spot in France. This serves as proof of how different regions connect more strongly with different eras of the series.
The Gundam brand has been a pioneer of the 'Real Robot' genre since its creation in 1979 by Yoshiyuki Tomino and the Sunrise studio. This legend, which has been continuing for over 45 years, has turned into a massive industry not only through anime but also through plastic model kits called Gunpla. This latest poll has once again shown how deeply rooted the brand's fan base is, not just in Japan, but all over the world. Special awards, such as the RX-78 Award given to the Shining Gundam at 78th place or the award for the Nether Gundam (fans' favorite 'windmill' robot) at 25th place, reflect the community's sense of humor and passion for every detail of the series.
So, what do these results tell us? The Gundam universe continues its global expansion with projects like the record-breaking Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom film and Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance. Bandai Namco conducting this poll in 10 languages signals that future projects will also be more 'world-focused.' Fans have already begun to excitedly await new special illustrations to be released for the most popular robots selected, and likely new Gunpla announcements that will come in parallel with this popularity. If your favorite robot isn't on the list, don't be sad; the Gundam universe continues to expand with new designs every day!
