Haikyū!! fans are in for an exciting day! The anime universe shared the first promotional visuals for the new special episode “Bakemono-tachi” and the series' second theatrical film. According to Anime News Network, the special episode's teaser video and key visual, along with the second film's key visual, were unveiled to fans in the same announcement.
The “Bakemono-tachi” (Monsters) special episode, as the name suggests, focuses on the series' talented players referred to as “monsters.” The teaser and key visual reflect the animation quality of the special episode by Production I.G and the series' characteristic energy. On the other hand, the key visual shared for the second film of Haikyū!! Final, “Battle of Concepts”, offers hints about the atmosphere of the final battle.
Let's recall: Haruichi Furudate's manga, serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump between 2012 and 2020, was completed in 45 volumes. The anime adaptation began in 2014 and, after four seasons, was set to conclude with a two-film project titled Haikyū!! Final. The first film, “The Dumpster Battle” (Gomi Suteba no Kessen), was released in 2024 and grossed over 5 billion yen in Japan, proving the series' box office power.
As with all productions in the series, Susumu Mitsunaka sits in the director's chair; Takahiro Kishida handles character designs, and Yuki Hayashi handles the music. This team is seen as a sign that both the special episode and the second film will deliver an experience of the quality fans are accustomed to.
The new teaser and key visuals are an important stop on the road to the final story that Haikyū!! fans have long awaited. The release dates for the special episode and the second film have not yet been confirmed; however, with announcements in the coming months, it will become clearer how the series will be crowned with a finale.
