New Key Visual and Episode 1 Preview Released for Hana-Kimi Season 2

Hana-Kimi's second season promotional visual and first episode preview have been released. The anime, adapted from Hisaya Nakajo's legendary shōjo manga of the same name, returns with a new season set to air in 2024. The released key visual shows the main characters Mizuki Ashiya and Izumi Sano along with other key characters in their new designs.
According to Anime Corner, preview images from the season's first episode indicate that the characters' dynamics are renewed and the story will continue from where it left off. Hana-Kimi (original title Hanazakari no Kimitachi e) was first serialized in Hana to Yume magazine between 1996 and 2004, and with 12 manga volumes it sold over 17 million copies worldwide, becoming one of the classics of the shōjo genre. The first anime adaptation aired as 26 episodes in 2006-2007 and was highly acclaimed for its handling of themes such as gender-bending and high school romance.
The announcement of the second season was made at the end of 2023, generating great excitement among fans. The new season will cover the remaining volumes of the manga that were not adapted in the first season. Studio Studio Deen (the producer of the first season) returns for a high-quality production, and it is reported that Kōichi Sakamoto, the director of the first season, will be in the director's chair. Additionally, prominent voice actors such as Yui Horie (Mizuki) and Mamoru Miyano (Izumi) will reprise their roles.
This news holds great significance especially for longtime fans who have followed the series since the early 2000s. Hana-Kimi was not just a love story but also a pioneering work that questioned identity, acceptance, and gender roles. The new season will present these themes to today's audience with a more modern visual style. While the premiere date for the first episode has not yet been confirmed, the season is expected to begin in spring 2025. With the trailer and exact release date expected in the coming weeks, the excitement will likely grow even more.
