'Happy Kanako's Killer Life' Returns with a Second Season in September
The story of Kanako, who oscillates between her daily life and a secret identity as an assassin, returns to screens in September with new episodes. According to Anime News Network, the second season of the live-action series "Happy Kanako's Killer Life" (Shiawase Kanako no Koroshiya Seikatsu) has been officially confirmed, with a premiere date set for September 2026.
The series is adapted from the manga of the same name by Toshiya Wakabayashi. The series, which first began publication in Young Gangan magazine in 2020, follows Kanako, an ordinary office worker who is actually a hitman, and the comedic-thriller events she experiences while trying to balance this double life. The manga quickly reached a wide readership with both its dark humor and action scenes.
The first season aired in Japan on MBS/TBS channels in 2024 and was well-received, particularly for the lead actress's performance and its faithful adaptation. While the production company has not yet announced new cast members for the second season, fans are eagerly waiting to see what dangers Kanako will face in her secret world this time. Series creator Wakabayashi previously said of the manga, "The idea of an office worker being an assassin is actually a nod to the absurdity of modern work life."
