Ichijouma Mankitsu Gurashi! Anime Has Begun: Lead Voice Actress Announced!

One of the hottest and most anticipated productions of the Spring 2026 anime season, Ichijouma Mankitsu Gurashi!, began its broadcast on April 11. With the release of the first episode, the voice cast, one of the topics fans were most curious about, has been clarified. It has been officially announced that the talented voice actress Hana Hishikawa will bring the story's central character, Meiko Morita, to life.
The original manga, written by Kumako Hisama, is serialized in Houbunsha's popular magazine Manga Time Kirara. The series follows the minimalist and fun daily life of Meiko Morita, who decides to live in a very cramped room that is only one tatami mat in size (approximately 1.6 square meters). Meiko's struggle to "survive in the city" after thinking she was accepted into a prestigious academy in Tokyo, only to find herself working in a manga cafe (mankitsu), is described by fans of the genre as a truly "healing" (iyashikei) experience.
Lead voice actress Hana Hishikawa previously received great acclaim for her role as Yui Nagomi (Cure Precious) in the Delicious Party Precure series. Hishikawa's energetic and sincere tone is expected to be a perfect match for Meiko's optimistic personality. The anime is being produced by Studio PRA, with Toshinori Watanabe (Tokyo Ghoul:re, Mix) serving as director. The music is composed by the famous MONACA team, which significantly raises expectations for the series' atmospheric quality.
Such "slice of life" anime serve as a great escape for viewers looking to get away from a busy pace. Ichijouma Mankitsu Gurashi! is a candidate to be one of the favorites of this season with its creative solutions in a narrow space, themes of friendship, and a cheerful perspective on modern Japan's "net cafe resident" phenomenon. We look forward to watching the adventures of other colorful characters like Rie Amamiya and Marika Suzuki as new episodes are released!
