Inherit the Winds TV Anime Casts Yasuyuki Kase as Serizawa Kamo

Inherit the Winds (known as Kaze Tsugu in Japan) is making headlines with a major voice cast announcement. According to Anime News Network, the actor bringing Serizawa Kamo to life will be veteran voice actor Yasuyuki Kase. The anime is scheduled to begin airing in Japan in January 2027.
Kaze Tsugu is written by master manga artist Kazuhiro Fujita. Fujita is known especially for classic series such as Ushio to Tora and Karakuri Circus. The manga has been serialized in Shogakukan's Big Comic Superior magazine since 2021, and is published in English by Viz Media under the title Inherit the Winds. The story is set in the Bakumatsu period and focuses on Serizawa Kamo, one of the first commanders of the Shinsengumi.
Historically, Serizawa Kamo was one of the leaders of the Mibu Roshigumi, the predecessor of the Shinsengumi, in 1863. Known for his harsh and rebellious personality, Kamo was assassinated after conflicts within the group led by Kondō Isami and Hijikata Toshizō. Yasuyuki Kase, who will bring this complex figure to the screen, is known in the anime world for his roles as Kisame Hoshigaki in Naruto, Kaku in One Piece, and Shogo Makishima in Psycho-Pass. Kase's deep and distinctive voice is considered a fitting choice for Serizawa Kamo's dark and powerful nature.
Anime adaptations of Fujita's previous works, especially the 2015-2016 adaptation of Ushio to Tora, were highly acclaimed by both older and newer generations of viewers. Therefore, the anime adaptation of Kaze Tsugu is eagerly anticipated by both manga fans and period drama lovers. For now, only Serizawa Kamo's voice actor has been announced; new announcements about the main cast, production staff, and promotional visuals are expected in the coming months.
