New Footage Released for Nagaoka Fireworks Festival-Themed Film "Kimi to Hanabi to Yakusoku to"
The anime world is preparing for an emotional and visual feast this summer. A new video clip has been shared from the highly anticipated Kimi to Hanabi to Yakusoku to (You, Fireworks, and Our Promise) film, focusing on the lead character Makoto Natsume. Set to hit theaters in Japan on July 17, 2026, the production invites viewers into the mesmerizing atmosphere of the famous Nagaoka Fireworks Festival, one of Japan's "Three Great Fireworks Festivals." The latest footage from the film reveals both the emotional depth of the characters and the grandeur of the festival.
The film's voice cast features several popular names. The main character, Makoto Natsume, is voiced by Shori Sato, a member of the famous idol group timelesz (formerly known as Sexy Zone). Sato is joined by Nanoka Hara (in the role of Aki Hayama), known for her performance in the film Suzume. The story follows the intersection of the paths of Makoto, a shy high school student living in Tokyo, and Aki, a popular girl, through a mysterious drawing of fireworks. A prophecy inherited from Aki's great-grandmother and a promise spanning 81 years bring these two young people together under the sparkling sky of Nagaoka.
The technical staff of the production is also quite ambitious. The film is directed by Kei Suzuki, while the animation production is carried out in partnership between SynergySP and The Answer Studio. The music for the project, planned by Shin-Ei Animation, is entrusted to Arisa Okehazama, whom we know from Jujutsu Kaisen. Additionally, the theme song "Kienai Hanabi" (Eternal Fireworks), which will reinforce the emotional atmosphere of the film, is performed by the lead actor Shori Sato's group, timelesz. This collaboration signals that the film will satisfy fans both musically and visually.
Supported by the city of Nagaoka and the Niigata Prefecture Tourism Association, the film aims to introduce the region's cultural heritage to the world. As the release date approaches, it has been announced that a special television program featuring the cast will also be broadcast. Adapted from Kaori Mado's original light novel, this production promises not just a love story, but also a coming-of-age tale that bridges the past and the future. Anime lovers will have the chance to experience this visual feast on the big screen starting July 17.
