Kingdom Hearts Anime Series Coming to Disney+, Kingdom Hearts IV to Release in 2027

Big news has arrived for Kingdom Hearts fans from both the screen and gaming fronts. Disney+ has announced that it will bring a new anime series called Kingdom Hearts The Series to its platform. Meanwhile, the new Kingdom Hearts IV trailer revealed that the game will be released at the end of 2027 and that the Coco universe will also appear in the game.
The series, which began with its first game in 2002, follows Sora, created by Tetsuya Nomura, as he visits Disney worlds with the Keyblade. Accompanied by Donald and Goofy, Sora eventually joined forces with Final Fantasy characters as well. As one of the classics of the action RPG genre, Kingdom Hearts has sold over 35 million copies worldwide to date.
The anime series' studio, cast, and release date have not yet been announced; however, being on a platform like Disney+ will allow the series to reach a much wider audience. The series also has a manga adaptation written by Shiro Amano that tells the story in a different style. Now, the anime adaptation is preparing to present the visual identity of the Kingdom Hearts universe in a new format.
Kingdom Hearts IV was first introduced at the 20th anniversary event in April 2022, showing Sora in Quadratum, a realistic world. The new trailer offers important clues about where the game will go in this new story phase. The Land of the Dead from Pixar's beloved animation Coco will join Kingdom Hearts IV with its themes of music and family. Thus, the series will host another Pixar universe, following the Toy Story and Monsters, Inc. worlds in Kingdom Hearts III.
In the coming months, new details are expected to be shared for both Kingdom Hearts The Series and Kingdom Hearts IV. Although 2027 still seems far away, the expansion of the Kingdom Hearts universe through anime and games at the same time will reignite discussions about the series' story. These new steps from the Disney and Square Enix partnership, in particular, herald an exciting period for a fan base that has remained silent for a long time.
