KonoSuba 4th Season Coming in 2027: New Studio and Staff Announced
Exciting news for KonoSuba fans: The fourth season of the KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! anime series has been officially announced and is planned to air in 2027. The director's chair for the new season will be occupied by Manabu Kurihara. He previously directed the KonoSuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World! spin-off series. The chief director role will be taken by Takaomi Kanasaki, who was behind the first two seasons and the movie. This is seen as an ideal balance for both fans of the old and those expecting a fresh breath. The studio that will produce the series is ENGI — a studio established in 2018 and a subsidiary of Kadokawa, which previously handled the spin-off. This marks a significant change from Studio Drive, which produced the third season.
KonoSuba is based on the light novel series written by Natsume Akatsuki and illustrated by Kurone Mishima. The first volume was released in 2012, and the series quickly gained a cult following for its humorous critique of the isekai genre. The first anime adaptation in 2016, the second season in 2017, and the film in 2019 were met with great acclaim. The third season, which aired in 2024, continued the story, following the comedic adventures of Kazuma the adventurer, Aqua the goddess, Megumin the mage, and Darkness the knight. Which volumes the new season will cover has not yet been announced, but since the main story of the light novel has concluded in 17 volumes, it raises the possibility that the studio may move towards original content or side stories.
