The End of an Era in the Love Live! World: Link! Like! Love Live! Servers Are Shutting Down
A very sad development has occurred for Love Live! fans. It has been announced that Link! Like! Love Live!, the main platform for one of the series' most innovative projects, Hasu no Sora Jōgakuin School Idol Club, will officially end its service on June 30. The application, which opened for early access in April 2023 and met players with its full version in May, is preparing to close its digital doors after a journey of approximately three years.
Developed in collaboration with Odd No. and Bandai Namco Filmworks, this application went beyond traditional mobile games to offer a "real-time" experience. The platform, where characters aged according to the school calendar, new story content was added every day, and magnificent virtual concerts called Fes×LIVE were held, brought the daily lives of the Hasu no Sora girls to fans. This project, which tells the story of the 103rd generation school idols, aimed to provide an interactive social network experience, unlike other productions in the series.
The Love Live! series has become a massive brand in the anime and gaming world since it began with the µ's group in 2010. However, significant instability has been observed in the mobile gaming wing of the series in recent years. The closure of Love Live! School Idol Festival 2 Miracle Live! within just one year had previously surprised fans. The fact that Link! Like! Love Live! is joining this trend could be a harbinger of a major change in the series' digital strategy. Industry analysts point out that the sustainability of such high-cost "live service" games that require constant content production is becoming increasingly difficult.
So, what happens next? With the servers shutting down, the digital collections and interactive features owned by players will become inaccessible. However, it is not yet clear whether the Hasu no Sora project will continue with music albums, real-time radio broadcasts, and physical concerts. Fans will be able to accompany their favorite idols for the last time with farewell events and final story chapters that will continue until June 30. This farewell shows that another page has closed in the Love Live! universe, but space is being made for new projects.
