Special Selection to Be Broadcast for Lupin III's 55th Anniversary: Fan Voting Begins

In honor of Lupin III's 55th anniversary, a special 'Masterpiece Selection' (傑作選) will be broadcast on television in October 2024. The fan voting for this special broadcast of Monkey Punch's iconic work started on June 10, 2024 on the official website.
The voting allows fans to select their favorites from over 300 episodes of the series that have been broadcast since 1971. The selected episodes will be shown in a special program on NTV in October. This event is organized to honor the 55-year journey of the series that Monkey Punch (real name Kazuhiko Kato) started in Weekly Manga Action magazine in 1967.
Lupin III has become a globally recognized cultural phenomenon. Inspired by French writer Maurice Leblanc's character Arsène Lupin, the series tells the adventures of his grandson, Arsène Lupin III. Since the first anime adaptation in 1971, six different anime series, six films, two OVAs, and countless special episodes have been produced. In 2018, Lupin III: Part 5 aired on Netflix, marking a modern return.
Although the series' creator Monkey Punch passed away in 2019, his work continues to reach new generations of fans. The 55th anniversary selection will provide nostalgia for long-time fans and present the best examples of the series to new viewers. It has not yet been announced when the fan voting will end, but the list of selected episodes is expected to be announced in September.
This kind of fan participation creates significant engagement, especially at a time when classic anime series are being rediscovered on digital platforms. Lupin III's maintenance of popularity for 55 years stems from its timeless characters and masterful blend of universal themes such as thievery, adventure, and humor. The October broadcast may also lay the groundwork for future projects in the series.
