Two Legends of the Sky Unite: A Giant Collectible Figure Arrives with the Macross Frontier and Top Gun: Maverick Collaboration!

Bandai Spirits has announced a massive collaboration that will excite both aviation enthusiasts and anime fans. The legendary Macross Frontier series and the blockbuster film Top Gun: Maverick are coming together for a special figure under Bandai's prestigious DX Chogokin series. This unique project reinterprets the iconic VF-25 Messiah Valkyrie, piloted by the series' main protagonist Alto Saotome, with the famous colors of Maverick's F/A-18E Super Hornet. Fasten your seatbelts, because this collaboration is preparing to push the boundaries in the sky.
This special figure is not just a simple color variant; it is an engineering marvel in its details. Standing approximately 250 mm tall, the figure can fully transform into three different modes: Fighter (Aircraft), Gerwalk, and Battroid (Robot). The head design in Battroid mode, in particular, is adorned with red and white stripes inspired by Maverick's helmet in the film. Additionally, the body features Top Gun: Maverick logos and special military markings, while the set includes a special display stand bearing the logos of both productions, a gun pod, and an assault knife.
Macross series creator and legendary designer Shoji Kawamori is a name known for his passion for real-world aviation and the technical realism in his aircraft designs. Released in 2008 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the series, Macross Frontier was one of the pinnacles of this passion with its breathtaking dogfight scenes and pilot-centric theme. Top Gun: Maverick's similar structure, which elevates the "human factor" and piloting skills against unmanned aerial vehicles, brings these two different worlds together on the common ground of a love for aviation. For fans, this collaboration represents the fusion of the best flight scenes from two different cultures.
This piece, which holds great importance for collectors, will be available for 26,400 Yen (tax included). Pre-orders for the DX Chogokin VF-25 Messiah Valkyrie TOPGUN: Maverick Ver. model opened in Japan on April 3, 2026, and it is scheduled to hit shelves in September 2026. Combining both mecha aesthetics and the classic spirit of aviation, this rare piece already seems to be a candidate for one of the most desired collectibles of the year. If you are passionate about sky battles, it would be wise to stay alert so you don't miss out on this limited production.
