Made in Abyss: Awakening Mystery Film Trilogy Announced: First Part Arrives in October!
Made in Abyss, one of the most shocking and captivating productions in the anime world, has returned with a major announcement that has thrilled fans. A new key visual for the series' continuation project, Made in Abyss: Awakening Mystery (Mezameru Shinpi), has been released, and the highly anticipated release date has been confirmed. According to the official announcement made at the AnimeJapan 2026 event, the first part of the new film series will premiere in theaters in Japan on October 23, 2026.
This new project serves as a direct continuation of The Golden City of the Scorching Sun season, which was released in 2022 and made a significant impact. Adapted from the manga series created by Akihito Tsukushi, which has sold over 22 million copies worldwide, the production will be presented to audiences as a film trilogy this time. The story will continue to follow the dangerous journey of Riko, Reg, Nanachi, and the newest member of the team, Faputa, as they head deeper into the Abyss, into the heart of the unknown.
Familiar names who played a major role in the series' success are behind the production. While Kinema Citrus studio continues to maintain the animation quality, Masayuki Kojima once again sits in the director's chair. The unique and atmospheric music that reflects the spirit of the series will once again come from the hands of award-winning composer Kevin Penkin. The fact that mysterious characters who will be newly introduced to the story, such as Tepaste and Cravagli, are featured in the newly released visual alongside our main team has already sparked great curiosity among fans.
