Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Returns! Date Set for 20th Anniversary Special Anime "EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance"

The legendary series Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, known for its action-packed and sci-fi-themed take on the magical girl genre, is making a major comeback that will thrill fans. Announced as part of the series' 20th-anniversary celebrations, the new anime project Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance will meet audiences in Japan on July 4, 2026. This new installment of the series will debut with a special one-hour premiere episode.
The new series promises a slightly different and darker atmosphere than the usual Nanoha stories. Set in a dystopian future where humanity has been struggling to survive against an invasive species for 30 years, the story focuses on an organization called EXCEEDS, established by the United Nations. While the story centers on a new character, Shiina Kuze (voiced by Azusa Tachibana), the series' iconic names Nanoha Takamachi (Yukari Tamura) and Fate T. Harlaown (Nana Mizuki) are returning with newly designed Barrier Jacket costumes.
On the production side, familiar names provide confidence. Series creator Masaki Tsuzuki is in charge of the original story and screenplay, while Takayuki Hamana, who previously directed the series' films, sits in the director's chair. Animation production is being handled by the Seven Arcs studio, remaining faithful to the series' roots. Furthermore, the series' indispensable voice, Nana Mizuki, will perform the anime's opening theme, "Crimson Bullet," offering fans a nostalgic and energetic atmosphere.
The Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha series first began in 2004 as a spin-off of the visual novel Triangle Heart 3. However, it quickly built its own audience and transformed into a massive franchise that blends the magical girl genre with technological devices and military strategies. For the series, which has remained silent since the 2018 film Detonation, this new project serves as both a tribute to old fans and a fresh start for a new generation of viewers. Coming after the manga adaptation that began in April 2025, this anime is a candidate to be one of the most talked-about productions of the 2026 summer season.
