MAPPA Steps into Shōjo Anime World with "Fall in Love, You False Angels"

Although MAPPA has made a name for itself in recent years with action-heavy productions like "Jujutsu Kaisen" and "Attack on Titan: The Final Season", it is now shifting its focus to the shōjo genre. The studio officially announced that it will adapt the manga "Fall in Love, You False Angels" (Japanese title Koi wo Suru nara, Itsuwari no Tenshi) into an anime. The announcement was made during the AnimeJapan 2025 event and generated great excitement among fans.
The manga is written and illustrated by Coco Uzuki and has been serialized in Margaret magazine since 2022. The story revolves around the complex friendship and romantic relationship between Amane, the school's popular girl nicknamed "angel," and Hikari, a girl who is actually malicious at heart. The manga was nominated in the shōjo category at the Kodansha Manga Awards in 2023, and five volumes have been released so far. The series has sold over 1 million copies, demonstrating its popularity.
MAPPA's undertaking of this project is seen as part of the studio's genre diversification strategy. Having produced successful works in different genres such as "Yuri!!! on Ice" and "Kakegurui" in 2023, MAPPA had previously gained experience in the shōjo field with productions like "Sarazanmai" and "Given". However, "Fall in Love, You False Angels" will be MAPPA's first major project directly adapting a shōjo romantic comedy manga. With this move, the studio aims to appeal to a broad audience and attract the interest of female viewers.
Although the release date and cast have not been announced yet, industry sources suggest the project may air in the first quarter of 2026. Given MAPPA's production quality, the adaptation of "Fall in Love, You False Angels" is expected to be visually impressive and emotionally deep. Exciting developments are certainly on the horizon for shōjo fans: MAPPA takes every project it touches to the next level, and this time it presents us with lies and love among angels.
