Matsurika Kanriden Anime Adaptation Releases New Promotional Video with Opening Song by Kana Boon
The Matsurika Kanriden anime adaptation has released a new promotional video featuring the opening song Matsurika by Kana Boon. The video showcases the series' colorful world and characters alongside the song, giving fans their first clear look at the adaptation's atmosphere. The anime will premiere in Japan on July 5, 2025.
The series bears the signature of Kōhei Horikoshi, known worldwide for My Hero Academia. After completing MHA in August 2024, Horikoshi returned to Weekly Shonen Jump with this new manga. Matsurika Kanriden began serialization in the magazine's 21st issue on April 21, 2025. The story revolves around Kanri, a young man in charge of festival management, and Matsurika, a mysterious girl, with Japanese folklore, supernatural beings, and festival themes at the forefront.
The anime adaptation is being produced at studio Bones, which also worked on the My Hero Academia anime series. Kenji Nagasaki serves as director, with Yōsuke Kuroda handling series composition and Yoshihiko Umakoshi in charge of character designs. This team, the same names who brought Horikoshi's previous world to anime, adds special significance to the project. In the lead roles, Aoi Yūki voices Matsurika, and Kaito Ishikawa voices Kanri.
Kana Boon is a J-rock band well known to anime fans for performing Silhouette for Naruto Shippuden and Peace Sign for My Hero Academia. The band's track Matsurika, created for this project, stands out as an opening song that reflects both the series' name and its atmosphere. The new promotional video combines the song's energy with Horikoshi's dynamic artwork.
The Matsurika Kanriden manga is still being serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump.
