Gundam Fever in McDonald's Japan: The Legendary Series Returns to Menus!

Exciting news for anime fans in Japan! McDonald's Japan has announced a new collaboration with the legendary mecha series Mobile Suit Gundam. Short teaser videos shared on social media on April 5 and 6, 2026, sparked great curiosity by paying homage to the series' most iconic lines and characters. In particular, the phrase "This is no Happy Meal, boy, no Happy Meal!", a reference to the unforgettable line by the character Ramba Ral, has already gone viral on social media.
The new campaign not only offers a visual feast but also brings back the legendary voices of the series. The teasers feature newly recorded dialogue from Shuichi Ikeda as Char Aznable, Toru Furuya as Amuro Ray, and Saori Hayami as Lalah Sune. Hamburger silhouettes appearing alongside a "Newtype" flash in the videos signal that a special menu is coming very soon. This collaboration is particularly notable as it arrives during a period when the Gundam universe is entering its 47th year and Gundam Next Future events are ongoing.
Actually, this is not the first meeting of these two giants. The Char Aznable-themed menu, which made a huge splash in 2022, was awarded the "2023 Character Award" in Japan. Products offered at that time, such as the "Red Garlic Teriyaki" and "Newtype White Triple Cheeseburger," were highly acclaimed for both their flavors and their packaging designs that remained faithful to the series. Created in 1979 by Yoshiyuki Tomino and Sunrise, Mobile Suit Gundam revolutionized the anime industry by pioneering the Real Robot genre. Today, it continues to be one of the strongest pillars of Japanese culture with its plastic model kits (Gunpla) and new series.
So, what should we expect from this new collaboration? Although official menu details have not yet been announced, leaked information suggests that limited-time hamburgers, specially designed packaging, and possibly collectible figures are on the way. In Japan's fast-food sector, anime collaborations are not just a marketing strategy but also a major cultural event for fans. The official menu content and campaign dates are expected to be clarified in the coming days. If your travels take you to Japan this spring, don't miss the chance to taste a Gundam burger!
