Mercedes and the Waning Moon Anime TV Series Announced: First Trailer and Cast Revealed

Mercedes and the Waning Moon's long-awaited anime adaptation has finally been unveiled with exciting details. The official announcement on July 15, 2026, confirmed that the anime will be a TV series, with the first episode scheduled to air in January 2027. Along with this, the first trailer, main voice cast, and staff information were also shared.
The role of the main character Mercedes will be voiced by Anna Nagase. Nagase is previously known for her roles in productions such as Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man. In the series, Mercedes is the daughter of a noble family who is burdened by a mysterious curse. The story follows her struggle to survive in a world filled with supernatural beings while attempting to use the power of the full moon to break this curse.
The manga series first began publication in Japan in 2022 in Monthly Comic Garden magazine and quickly gained a large fan base with its gothic atmosphere, deep character designs, and romantic suspense elements. The series, which is also popular on online platforms in our country, is licensed in English by Seven Seas Entertainment in North America. Anticipation for the anime adaptation had been building significantly since the initial announcement in 2025.
The anime is directed by Takashi Mamezuka, who has previously worked on productions such as Vanitas no Carte and Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic. The screenplay is written by Yoshiko Nakamura, known for romantic-fantasy works like Fruits Basket and Snow White with the Red Hair. The music is entrusted to Yuki Kajiura—a source of extra excitement for fans, as Kajiura is known for her unforgettable compositions in works like Madoka Magica and Sword Art Online.
The first trailer draws attention with visuals stretching from Mercedes' gothic castle into the darkness of the night, accompanied by immersive music. The footage preserves the detailed art style of the original manga while promising the fluid animation characteristic of anime. While there is no official information regarding the broadcaster or the number of episodes yet, the series, which is planned to begin in January 2027, is estimated to be a 12 or 13-episode first season.
This announcement carries significant weight, especially with the recent revival of gothic romance and supernatural drama genres. Mercedes and the Waning Moon has become one of the most anticipated anime of 2027, both for bringing a story beloved by manga readers to the screen and for being prepared by an experienced team. New trailers, character posters, and likely a streaming platform announcement are expected in the coming months.
