Milky☆Subway Movie Re-released with New Scenes: 'Temporary Extra Milky☆Subway' Hits Theaters on June 12!

The anime film, which gained widespread attention as Yōhei Kameyama's one-man production and garnered a large fanbase, the enhanced version of Galactic Express Milky☆Subway: Local Theater Bound, will be released in Japanese cinemas on June 12 under the title Temporary Extra Milky☆Subway: Local Theater Bound. This new version will offer viewers an immersive experience in MX4D, 4DX, and standard 2D formats, in addition to brand new 2D scenes added to the original film.
The Milky☆Subway universe came to life through the vision of Yōhei Kameyama, who took on almost every role as director, writer, producer, character designer, modeler, animator, and editor. This journey began with Kameyama's 2022 graduation project, the short ONA (Original Net Animation) Milky☆Highway, which went viral on YouTube with over 6.7 million views. The sequel series, Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express, aired as 12 episodes on Tokyo MX and YouTube between July and September 2025. The total viewership on the series' official YouTube channel surpassed 280 million by May 2026, marking a significant success. The series' first theatrical compilation was released on February 6, 2026.
The story follows the adventures of genetically engineered "superhuman" Chiharu and cyborg Makina, who are arrested for violating space traffic laws. Assigned to clean the interstellar train Milky☆Subway as community service, the duo find themselves in a chaotic adventure when the train suddenly goes out of control and hurtles into deep space. The film version expands the plot, revealing a larger conspiracy, which includes police officer Ryoko and new character Asami. The series features futuristic and nostalgic visuals,
