New Details on Mobile Police Patlabor EZY: The Legendary Mecha Series Returns in 2026!

One of the most established and realistic series in the mecha world, Mobile Police Patlabor, is returning with its long-awaited new project, Mobile Police Patlabor EZY. The production team has released a new character promotional video (PV) that has excited fans of the series. This video provides our first detailed look at the new generation members of Special Vehicles Section 2 (SV2), while also featuring commentary from director Yutaka Izubuchi regarding the characters and the vision for the series.
Mobile Police Patlabor EZY takes place approximately 40 years after the late 1990s setting of the original series, placing it in the mid-2030s. The story is set in a world where technology has advanced rapidly, yet the human factor and bureaucratic obstacles remain. Among the newly introduced characters, the energetic and brave Ingram-01 pilot Towa Kuga (voiced by Sumire Uesaka) and her commander Kippei Atori (voiced by Kikunosuke Toya) stand out. Additionally, new faces such as Saki Hirata and Akihiko Hazama are part of the Ingram-02 team. Director Izubuchi emphasizes that this new team, much like their predecessors, is viewed as "misfits" and a "burden" within the police force, and that the Patlabor spirit thrives precisely on this sense of being an outcast.
Looking at the history of the series, we see that Patlabor was a revolutionary media-mix project launched in 1988 by the creative group known as HEADGEAR (Masami Yuki, Yutaka Izubuchi, Kazunori Ito, Mamoru Oshii, and Akemi Takada). Giant robots were not just war machines, but tools for construction and police work.
