New Images from Mobile Police Patlabor EZY: The Iconic Ingram is Made of Cardboard This Time!

One of the most deep-rooted and beloved series in the mecha world, Mobile Police Patlabor, is preparing to return after a long hiatus with the Mobile Police Patlabor EZY project. The new images shared from Mobile Police Patlabor EZY File 1, the eagerly awaited start of the series, have both amused and excited fans. In the new scenes, members of the Special Vehicles Section 2 (SV2) are seen using a cardboard version of the iconic Ingram robot to introduce their work to kindergarten students. This charming detail serves as proof that the series maintains its familiar humorous texture, intertwined with everyday life.
The new series takes place in 2034, approximately 15 years after the original story. At the helm of the project is the series' original mechanical designer, the master Yutaka Izubuchi, known for works such as RahXephon. The animation studio seat is occupied by J.C.Staff. Patlabor EZY will not only address technological development but also re-examine the role of the police force and the giant robots known as Labors in a changing world order. This first episode, called File 1, is expected to act as a "pilot" that will define the general atmosphere of the series.
The Mobile Police Patlabor universe was brought to life in 1988 by the creative group known as Headgear (Mamoru Oshii, Masami Yuki, Yutaka Izubuchi, Kazunori Ito, and Akemi Takada). Unlike other mecha series, it revolutionized anime history with its realistic approach, positioning robots as "construction machinery" and "police vehicles" rather than fantastic war machines. The EZY project, first announced in 2017, signals that it is nearing the final stages of production with these new images that have arrived after years of silence.
For fans, these new images represent not just a nostalgic return, but also the beginning of a new era blended with modern animation techniques. Seeing the famous silhouette of the Ingram, even if it is made of cardboard, has been a great source of morale for those who miss the human and sincere side of the series. While more concrete information regarding the release date and voice cast is expected to be shared in the coming months, we will all see how the Patlabor legend adapts to the modern age.
