My Girlfriend's Friend Anime Introduced with Teaser Video and New Cast Members

The long-awaited anime adaptation of the beloved manga series My Girlfriend's Friend (Japanese title: Kanojo no Tomodachi) recently released its first teaser video and announced new cast members. According to Anime News Network, the series will premiere in October 2026. The teaser video featured brief glimpses of the main characters and atmospheric scenes reflecting the series' romantic-thriller tone.
In addition to the previously announced director and screenwriter, key staff members such as the character designer and music composer were also revealed. My Girlfriend's Friend is a popular romantic psychological thriller series written and illustrated by Tatsuya Uchimi, serialized in Kodansha's Young Magazine since 2019. The story follows university student Keisuke as he navigates complex feelings towards his girlfriend's close friend and the dangerous relationships that develop among the trio.
The teaser video was a long-awaited first visual step for fans. Previously, only an announcement poster and a few concept drawings had been shared. It is reported that among the newly announced staff members are experienced individuals who have worked on productions such as “Kaguya-sama: Love Is War” and “Horimiya”. However, the studio information has not yet been officially confirmed.
In the 2020s, with the increasing number of anime adaptations, series that blend psychological thriller and romance like My Girlfriend's Friend are particularly popular among young viewers. The fact that the manga sales have exceeded 1 million copies confirms this interest. In the coming months, new voice cast members, a second promotional video, and more specific information regarding the release date are expected.
