My Stepmother and Stepsisters Aren't Wicked Starts in July: The Era of Wicked Relatives Ends!

There is exciting news from the My Stepmother and Stepsisters Aren't Wicked (Watashi no Mamahaha to Musume-tachi ga Ijiwaru Janai) series, which is preparing to shatter the usual 'wicked stepmother' clichés in the anime world! According to the official announcement and the newly shared trailer, this highly anticipated production will take its place on screens in July. Unlike the drama in classic fairy tales, the anime, which will offer viewers a heartwarming story of family bonds, has already sparked great curiosity among fans of the genre.
Our story centers around Miya, a young girl whose life changes when her mother remarries. Based on what she has learned from classic stories, Miya prepares for the worst, thinking she will be mistreated by her new stepmother and stepsisters. However, from the moment she steps into the house, the scene she encounters is the complete opposite: her new family is incredibly kind, supportive, and loving toward her. This situation allows Miya to both face her own prejudices and discover the warmth of a real family.
The technical staff behind the production also consists of quite ambitious names. The animation studio behind the anime is Seven Arcs, which has previously signed off on successful works such as Blue Period and Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. The direction is undertaken by Kei Oikawa, whom we know from the Oregairu and Uma Musume series. The original story is based on a popular light novel series written by Fujimaru and brought to life with the illustrations of Hyuuga Azuri. The series was later adapted into a manga by Otsuuji, reaching a wide audience.
The biggest feature that distinguishes this anime from others is that it keeps the viewer away from unnecessary drama and offers an 'iyashikei' (healing/peaceful) atmosphere. While many anime series today focus on complex conflicts and intrigues, the structure of My Stepmother and Stepsisters Aren't Wicked, built on kindness and mutual understanding, seems to be a breath of fresh air for fans of the genre. With the premiere in July, we will all witness this sweet adventure of Miya and her new family together.
