Atsushi Miyauchi to Voice Borma in the New Ghost in the Shell Anime

The long-awaited new Ghost in the Shell anime has added another important name to its cast. According to the official announcement made on July 15, 2026, veteran voice actor Atsushi Miyauchi will bring the character Borma, a senior operator of Section 9, to life. With this, the supporting cast is beginning to take shape alongside the previously announced leads.
Borma is a figure who first appeared in the manga of Masamune Shirow’s iconic series and later featured in adaptations such as Stand Alone Complex and Arise. Known for his calm and calculating nature, this character is expected to play a more active role in the new story. The deep vocal tone Miyauchi has displayed in many previous mecha and action productions is a perfect fit for reflecting Borma’s cool-headedness on screen.
The new anime, produced by Production I.G, was announced as a television series scheduled to air in 2027. The series is directed by Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex), with the screenplay written by Dai Sato. The SAC era, where this duo previously worked together, is considered by fans to be one of the series' high points.
It is not yet clear whether this new adaptation will offer a more faithful interpretation of Shirow’s original manga or take place in an entirely different timeline. However, Kamiyama’s involvement suggests that the series will maintain its cyberpunk identity while focusing on artificial intelligence and ethical debates in the modern world. The inclusion of supporting characters like Borma is a sign that the dynamics of the Section 9 team will be explored in greater depth.
Fans are already curious about how Miyauchi will interpret Borma. Details regarding the official release date and the rest of the voice cast are expected to be announced in the coming months. The return to the Ghost in the Shell universe is both exciting for long-time fans and offers an opportunity to introduce new viewers to one of the most important works of the cyberpunk genre.
