New Ghost in the Shell Anime Premieres on Prime Video on July 7

The long-awaited new Ghost in the Shell anime has finally gotten a release date. A new trailer released by Amazon Prime Video shows that the series will meet audiences worldwide on July 7. The series will be available on Prime Video in over 240 countries, excluding mainland China, Russia, and Vietnam.
Although what story the new project will tell has not yet been fully revealed, the footage points to the classic cyberpunk atmosphere and the return of Major Motoko Kusanagi. This production, following SAC_2045 previously released on Netflix, is being brought to life by Production I.G. The studio has also been an important part of the franchise with the Stand Alone Complex and Arise series.
First born with Masamune Shirow's 1989 manga, Ghost in the Shell entered film history with Mamoru Oshii's 1995 movie. Later, the universe continued to expand with Stand Alone Complex (2002-2003), Arise (2013-2015), and SAC_2045 (2020-2021). Now, Prime Video is launching a new era of this legendary series. Amazon's simultaneous release across such a wide territory once again proves how huge the series' popularity is.
The brief scenes seen in the trailer hint at cybernetic bodies, AI conflicts, and a dark Tokyo night. Fans are particularly curious about what the tone of this new series will be, following previous works signed by Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki. According to official statements, the series is designed to appeal both to long-time viewers and to new fans.
More details are expected to be shared in the coming days. The Ghost in the Shell universe is considered one of the cornerstones of the cyberpunk genre. With this new series, how the world created by Masamune Shirow will merge with today's technology is a topic of great curiosity. Set to premiere on Prime Video on July 7, the series is poised to be one of the most talked-about productions for anime fans this summer.
