New Ghost in the Shell Anime Reveals Japanese Voice Cast and Release Date
One of the milestones of the cyberpunk genre, Ghost in the Shell, is returning with a new anime. According to Anime News Network, the Japanese voice cast for the production has been confirmed and its release date has been announced as July 7, 2026. The lead voice actor is Maaya Sakamoto, known for her roles in productions such as Ouran High School Host Club, Fate/Zero, and Psycho-Pass. Although it has not yet been revealed which character Sakamoto will voice, fans are speculating that she might bring to life a new version of the legendary Major Motoko Kusanagi.
Adapted from Masamune Shirow's original manga, Ghost in the Shell has become a massive industry in both anime and cinema since 1989. The 1995 film directed by Mamoru Oshii inspired many works such as The Matrix; the subsequent Stand Alone Complex series was regarded as one of the most respected examples of the genre in TV anime format.
