New Kaiji Live-Action Film Announced: 'Kaiji: Life Revenge Game' Coming in 2027

The long-awaited news has arrived: The new live-action film of the Kaiji series, "Kaiji: Life Revenge Game", will be in Japanese theaters on January 29, 2027. After a seven-year hiatus, this production brings new life to the dark world of the Teiai Group. There is a particularly exciting detail for fans: For the first time, the film will feature Hyodo Kazuya, the son of Teiai chairman Hyodo Kazutaka.
Along with the announcement, a teaser poster and a special promotional video were released. The poster reflects the characteristic Kaiji atmosphere, with Hyodo Kazuya's shadow catching attention. As in previous films of the series, psychological thriller, gambling, and survival struggles will be at the forefront. Although the director and cast have not yet been announced, the success of the past films starring Tatsuya Fujiwara raises expectations for the new film.
The Kaiji series is based on Fukumoto Nobuyuki's manga of the same name, which began in 1996. The series follows a man deep in debt who participates in deadly gambling games out of desperation. The first live-action film was released in 2009, the second in 2011, and the third film, "Kaiji: Final Game", in 2020. Despite the title "Final Game", the continuation of the series both surprises and delights fans. As the name suggests, the new film will deal with a "life revenge" theme.
Fukumoto Nobuyuki is known for his deep character analysis and moral dilemmas in his manga. His works have a large fan base not only in Japan but also worldwide. Besides Kaiji, his other gambling-themed manga such as "Gin to Kin" and "Touhai Densetsu Akagi" are also highly regarded. It is not yet known whether the new film will connect to the main storyline or tell a side story. However, the involvement of the second generation of the Hyodo family could reveal new secrets behind Teiai.
This announcement came as a huge surprise, especially for those eagerly waiting to see the Kaiji universe on the big screen. In the coming months, new trailers, cast, and story details are expected to be shared. Fans are wondering if Tatsuya Fujiwara will return to the role of Itō Kaiji. One thing is certain: January 2027 will be an unforgettable start for fans of psychological thrillers and gambling.
