Pre-Event for New Keroro Film: Voice Cast and Comedian Soshina Take the Stage

The countdown has begun for the long-awaited new film in the Keroro Gunso universe: „Shin Gekijōban Keroro Gunsō: Fukkatsu shite Sokkō Chikyū Metsubō no Kiki de Arimasu!" At a preview event held on June 16 at Yūrakuchō Asahi Hall in Tokyo, the film's voice cast met with fans. Attending the event were Watanabe Kumiko as Sergeant Keroro, Kozakura Etsuko as Corporal Tamama, and famous comedian Soshina (from the duo Shimofuri Myōjō).
During the event, Soshina thanked the film's producers and said that he was offered the role 'in a risky period.' Then, with a mix of humor, he said, 'My role is the kind that could be cut, so even if I'm taken out of the film, not much will be noticed,' making the audience laugh while also drawing attention to his modest contribution. The comedian's words sparked curiosity about the film's production process and created an amusing discussion among fans.
The Keroro Gunso series is a popular manga and anime created by Mine Yoshizaki, published since 1999. Over the years, this cult franchise has grown with many television seasons, spin-off films, and special episodes. Now it returns with an entirely new theatrical film. The plot tells the comedic yet dangerous struggle of Keroro and his friends to save the world. Especially after the last film in 2010, there was a long period of silence, and fans were eagerly awaiting this new production.
At the event, small hints were also given about the voice cast's performances in the film. Watanabe Kumiko stated that Keroro maintains his usual energetic and wild spirit, while Kozakura Etsuko said that the conflict between jealousy and loyalty in Tamama's character becomes even more pronounced in this film. Which role comedian Soshina voices has not yet been revealed, but his comment 'could be cut' suggests that the character's screen time may be limited.
The new film is scheduled for release in Japan in summer 2025, and international screenings are planned by the end of the year. Expected to appeal to both old fans of Keroro Gunso and new viewers, the production aims to offer a nostalgic experience along with modern animation quality. Soshina's possible surprise role and the film's plot involving the risk of 'rapid world destruction' signal that this will be one of the most talked-about anime films of the summer.
