New Details on the Nigashita Sakana Anime: Tetsu Inada Joins the Cast and Opening Video Released!

As the Spring 2026 anime season approaches, exciting news continues to arrive from the highly anticipated Nigashita Sakana wa Ookikatta ga Tsuriageta Sakana ga Ookisugita Ken (The Fish I Let Get Away Was Big, But the Fish I Caught Turned Out Much Bigger)! The series' official team announced that master voice actor Tetsu Inada has joined the cast in the role of the main character Mimi's father. Known for his iconic roles such as Daz Bones in One Piece and Ira Gamagoori in Kill la Kill, Inada's deep and authoritative voice will certainly add a unique flair to this noble family dynamic.
Along with the announcement, the series' creditless opening video was also unveiled. The opening theme, "Chikai wa Kyun to" (The Vow is a Heartbeat), was prepared in collaboration with the popular music group HoneyWorks and famous singer Airi Suzuki. While the song reflects the series' energetic and pop tone, Airi Suzuki's impressive vocals wonderfully highlight the balance between Mimi's mastery of martial arts and her romantic pursuits. The HoneyWorks team stated that they were inspired by the main character's carefree and innocent nature while preparing the song.
Adapted from Mayo Momoyo's popular light novel series, the production is being brought to life by TROYCA studio. The story revolves around Maria (Mimi), who was raised to inherit her family's martial arts legacy but lost her role as the "heir" with the birth of a brother. Our heroine, who goes to a neighboring kingdom to get married, finds herself in the middle of an unexpected "engagement annulment" scandal. However, this situation leads her to meet a prince who likes strong women, and events turn into a full-blown romantic comedy.
The voice cast of the series, directed by Akira Oguro, is like a parade of stars. Featuring names such as Yuu Serizawa (Mimi), Atsushi Tamaru (Renato), and Saori Hayami (Aida), the production will meet the audience on April 1, 2026. Combining both action and romantic comedy elements, this "twist" story already seems to be a candidate for one of the most remarkable works of the season for fans of the genre. We recommend you don't miss this adventure where Mimi will conquer both hearts and opponents!
