The One Piece Anime Remake's New Promotional Visual Pays Homage to the Manga's First Chapter

The new promotional visual released for the anime remake of The One Piece takes fans directly back to the series' beginning. The visual reinterprets the two-page color spread that opens the first chapter of Eiichiro Oda's manga. According to Anime News Network, the visual “lovingly recreates the two-page color spread that opens the manga's first chapter.” This choice serves as a tribute to one of the most iconic visual moments and already reveals the project's commitment to faithfulness.
One Piece has been published in Weekly Shōnen Jump since 1997 and, having sold millions of copies worldwide, has become one of the greatest successes in manga history. The anime adaptation produced by Toei Animation began in 1999 and is still ongoing with more than 1,000 episodes. This long-running journey makes it difficult for newcomers to get into the series. That is exactly where The One Piece stands out as an alternative.
The project was announced by Netflix and Wit Studio at the Jump Festa '24 event in December 2023. Wit Studio, known for productions such as Attack on Titan, Vinland Saga, and Spy x Family, will tell Oda's story from the very beginning, starting with the East Blue saga, in this remake. This means that young Luffy's journey to become a pirate will be handled anew with a modern production approach. The announcement particularly emphasized that the project would remain faithful to the original manga.
The fact that the new promotional visual draws inspiration from the opening spread of the first chapter therefore carries special significance. Oda's two-page color illustration from the first chapter holds an important place in the memories of readers who have followed the long-running series. Moreover, this visual sends a strong message that the remake will preserve the spirit of the manga, following the Toei adaptation that has continued for more than 25 years. This visual is one of the first concrete answers to fans' question: “How faithful will the remake be?”
For now, there is no release date set by Netflix. However, with the start of the promotional period, new trailers and cast details are expected to be shared in the coming period. The One Piece will be one of Netflix's major productions for both those who want to experience the series from the beginning again and those who want to enter the One Piece universe from scratch.
