New Trailer from Patlabor EZY’s ‘File 3’ Film: March 5, 2027 Release Date and Cast Announced

Patlabor EZY anime has released a new trailer for the third film in the series, titled “File 3”. The trailer revealed that the film will premiere in Japan on March 5, 2027, and showcased new names in the voice cast. Thus, the “EZY” project has stepped to the next stage with its file-by-file film structure progressing through the Patlabor universe.
The highly anticipated project, a modern return to the classic Mobile Police Patlabor universe, represents one of the unconventional branches of the mecha genre with its story focusing on the police activities of giant work machines called “labors.” The series was brought to life in 1988 as manga, OVA, and TV anime by key figures of the Headgear collective: Masami Yuki, Mamoru Oshii, and Kazunori Ito; it achieved cult status especially through Patlabor: The Movie and Patlabor 2: The Movie, both directed by Oshii. By taking giant robots out of being mere war machines and placing them within everyday police bureaucracy, this work achieved a realism and humorous tone rarely seen in mecha anime.
Patlabor EZY aims to carry this legacy to a new generation of viewers. Prepared with digital production techniques and a contemporary animation language, the project stands out with its segmented film structure called “File.” While the released trailer summarizes both the visual identity of the third installment and the series’ signature atmosphere, the announced cast paints an exciting picture for both longtime fans and new viewers. Meanwhile, a video published about the Patlabor: The Case Files game showed that the game will be released on September 17. Thus, the Patlabor brand continues to expand both on the silver screen and in the digital gaming realm.
For now, not much information has been shared about the story details and full cinematic scope of “File 3”. However, there are strong indications that the series’ signature light humor, police force setting, and detailed mechanical designs will be preserved. For old Patlabor fans, this production brings back the long-missed atmosphere of “ordinary people living alongside giant robots.” Following the screening on March 5, 2027, File 3 is expected to be released on digital platforms, and subsequent files in the series are expected to be announced.
